Hamper Mag is an independent publication based in Philadelphia.
We like things dirty, used, and cheap.
We also like things handmade
small scale genderless
sensory-friendly
with a wide size range.
And we believe in paying artists and designers for their work.

We cover thrifting, upcycling, vintage trends, cheap clothes & home decor, the secondhand economy, handmade jewelry and accessories, small businesses, and style for anyone who struggles to find clothes in traditional clothing stores.
This includes but is not limited to: queer and trans people, non-binary icons, fat people, poor people, disabled people, people with sensory issues, and men who like colors. Also skateboarders, chefs, drag queens, and people who do tattoos.

We post articles here, like interviews with small business owners and style icons we love, blogs, outfit breakdowns, upcycling tutorials, and thrifting tips and recs.
We also make a quarterly print zine that comes out in March, June, September, and December.
If you were not in love with Kathleen Hanna as a teenager — “zine” is a term for a self- or independently published, small-circulation print magazine. It’s pronounced “zeen” like ‘Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century.’
We accept volunteer submissions for any and all of this from comics to collages to essays, interviews, videos, thrifting maps, illustrations, outfit diaries. For now, we have no budget :)
send pitches or finished pieces to hampermag@gmail.com
AND We’re launching a podcast called Clothes Friends, which does deep dives into vintage trends and interviews with people in the secondhand economy and anyone whose closet we want to raid.

🧺 We believe in the power of self-expression & know that personal style makes us feel alive.
🧺 We want to separate the artistic and political aspects of fashion from consumerism, status, and normative beauty standards.
🧺 We think that anyone who wants to deserves the chance to showcase their looks, get their work “in print,” and to see a little more of themselves in a fashion magazine.
🧺 Mostly, we think that traditional style and shopping media is snobby, elitist, soulless, not inclusive, and generally, boring as hell. And we all deserve better.

Founded by a mentally ill, masc-leaning non-binary artist who loves jewelry and hates tags in clothes, Hamper is a love letter to freaks. It’s a mixed-media outlet aimed to validate your own creative process and to remind you that things don’t have to be perfect or polished (or from fucking New York or LA to matter.)
Also, it’s a centralized, living archive for our editor-in-chief to have for their million mini projects and passions on a page and in one place, to have something to show to others and to remind themselves of their power. We hope we can be that for you too.
We’re also a dyslexic team with no copy editor, so be graceful with the typos.
